China censors 3D Titanic, fear viewers will 'reach for a squeeze'

For the 100 year anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, James Cameron decided to create a 3D version of his hit movie “Titanic.”

The movie, staring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet provides a realistic rendition of what happened to those aboard the passenger liner RMS Titanic when it sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912 after colliding with an iceberg during a voyage from Southampton, UK to New York City.

A news release states that the new 3D rendition of "Titanic" opened in China over the weekend and brought in over $58 million. Viewers in China however were restricted from the full 3D experience. During the memorable scene when Rose poses naked for Jack in order to create an artistic rendition of her, viewers in China do not see the full picture.

A Chinese Speaker at the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television provided “Considering the vivid 3D effects, we fear that viewers may reach out their hands for a touch and thus interrupt other people’s viewing."

There you have it. China blocked the breasts of Rose in this racy scene because they feared viewers would reach out for a squeeze.

Offbeat China, a blog about the country’s Internet culture, quoted one commenter as saying: “I waited 15 years to see 3D boobs, not 3D iceberg.” Unless he plans on taking a trip to another country to watch the film in 3D, it seems as though the 3D icebergs is all he will see.
