MTS Sensors, a provider of magnetostrictive sensing technology, has introduced Serial Synchronous Interface (SSI) for its embeddable Temposonics C-Series core sensors.

MTS C-Series Embeddable Core Sensors

The SSI Serial Digital Outputs are cost-effective solutions that enable non-contact, digital continuous position measurement. This increases the potential for using digital magnetostrictive linear sensors in compact applications.

MTS has been utilizing SSI in its industrial sensors for more than 10 years. The communication technique has established itself in applications for continuous measurement sensors. The C-Series embeddable core sensors avoid housing costs by utilizing the environmental protection facility of the OEM product. The elements used in the embeddable core sensor are manufactured on automated equipment that ensures consistent quality.

Analog and SSI embeddable core sensors are designed for use in portable medical care equipment, marine pleasure craft, automotive tools, metal forming and woodworking tools, and in recreational vehicles. Automotive fluid change tools, medical diagnostic, care and treatment equipment, tuning and improvement of vehicle suspension, agricultural robotics, and steer-by-wire systems are some of the applications that have been utilizing MTS core embeddable magnetostrictive technology.

The SSI communication technique can be used to get every bit in a 24 bit position count word from a sensor located at a distance of 50 m at 400 kBd; 100 µ or 50 µ resolution is available and every bit is equivalent to an increment in the micron. The update occurs in gray or binary code at 1500 Hz.
