Stantum and Nissha Printing Introduce New Combined Multi-Touch and Stylus Platform

Multi-touch technology pioneer Stantum and Kyoto-based Nissha Printing have unveiled “Fine Touch Z”, their collaborative multi-touch solution, at the Society for Information Display’s (SID) Display Week.

The result of two years of collaborative work between Stantum and Nissha, FineTouch Z is touted to be the only solution in the market that effectively combines the capabilities of multi-touch and stylus input by using only one sensor. Current solutions adopt a battery-powered or electromagnetic stylus in combination with a projected capacitive sensor.

The patented Interpolated Voltage Sensing Matrix (iVSM) touch-and-write technology from Stantum which it displayed at the SID Display Week in 2011 is used to power FineTouch Z. The iVSM technology works on different operating systems such as Android OS and Windows with instruction set architecture such as ARM and x86. It gives manufacturers the flexibility to design displays of tablets by incorporating multiple simultaneous touches in combination with hand-writing inputs of high resolution. FineTouch Z also incorporates all these features at low level of power consumption and also includes a super-fast scanning engine. Its optical clarity and ability to function with both conductive and non-conductive objects makes this pressure-based touch solution on par with projected capacitive-based touch screens. The device will go into production in the last quarter of 2012. Until then, private demos will be shown to partners, select customers and analysts.
